death cab for cutie & john vanderslice [28/2, astoria]

john vanderslice was amazing last night! "time travel is lonely" and "pale horse" where amazing. if you haven't heard this guy i strongly suggest you get some of his music! years of waiting seemed like seconds as death cab for cutie played shortly after the end of jv's set. they are without a doubt the best live band i have ever seen. the set was perfect in everyway and they put on an amazing show, swapping instruments and stuff. highlight had to be the encore. ben gibbard came out and played "i will follow you into the dark" on his own, then the band came out and played my favourite song "tiny vessels" and then to top it all off their second best song "transatlanticism" a beautiful epic of a song. i absolutely loved it. words cannot describe how much that show actually meant to me. i've been waiting for just over three years to see this band, and finally i have.

my good friend tom and myself made it to the show. but it was a long and arduous road. below is a list of things that tried to thwart our death cab show...

-arctic weather conditions
-stuck behind a tractor
-swarm of about a thousand birds
-low water supply/dehydration
-mugger targetting tom
-tom looking shifty and looking up at the security on the balcony so they thought he was doing something wrong
-my lack of clothing (coupled with the arctic weather conditions)
-countless people running past us trying to get away from something

despite the "difficulties" we arrived at the show safely and it was a corker.

i swear to you. best show ever!
